Your visit to Sawmill Lodge will be much more pleasant if you are prepared for the conditions here. The following is a brief but informative guide to apparel, climate, gear requirements, and things like that. If you need more information, e-mail us or phone toll-free.
You also must bear in mind that Georgian Bay is a wilderness area, and that caution is important. While it's generally very safe here, you must always watch for bears, rattle snakes, and other wildlife. Caution and common sense are essential in any outdoors environment and this place is no exception. Georgian Bay is a fabulously scenic and historical area. A responsible approach to your holiday here will ensure happy memories for years to come.
General Things to Bring: |
|
| Toiletries | soap, toothpaste, shampoo |
| Towels | Housekeeping guests must provide their own towels. Towels are included with American Plan packages. But you can't take them home. |
| Rain Gear | May and June can be especially wet here. But, of course, that's when the fish are biting. Bring a rain suit. |
| Cold Weather Clothing | It's Canada, after all. You never know when it might get shivery for a day or two. Bring a fleece top, a warm jacket, some thin gloves, some long pants. |
| Warm Weather Clothing | Since it's Canada, it can also get amazingly hot. Think about shorts, tee shirts, maybe swimwear if you plan to jump off the docks (or out of your boat). |
| Bug Repellent | Most of our bugs are very small. But they still have sharp teeth, so it's best to just poison them. Deep-woods Off!® or Off! Skintastic® seem to work pretty well. |
| Hat | It's stylish, it's cool. It stops the top of your head from baking. Plus you can swat things with it. |
| Sunscreen | A minimum SPF 20 , but the higher the rating the better. Remember, the water is reflecting the UV back up, too. Bring lots. There is a product out there that combines bug repellent with sunscreen but we aren't sure whether it works. |
| Antihistamines | For those who experience allergy issues when in the great outdoors. Also useful for itchy bug bite conditions. |
| Sunglasses | Preferably polarized, with UVA and UVB filtering. Either go with cheap ones, or buy a string to keep them from going overboard. There are fewer terrible things than seeing your shades go to the bottom of the Great Lakes, especially on a clear sunny Summer day. |
Fishing Gear To Bring |
|
| New fishing line (bring a couple of spools) |
|

| Lures | Rapala® 7" : firetagger, gold/brown, silver/black |
| Tackle | snap swivels, leaders |
| Filet Knife | a nice sharp one |
| Spare Rod & Reel | Better safe than sorry |
| Ontario Outdoors Card | You must have a license to fish in Ontario. We also sell these at the lodge. |
